z
Work Plan for Additional Subsurface Assessment Former Unocal#0123
October 12,2000
will'depend on site conditions and field-screening data: Asa minimum, it,is expected that one
unsaturated soil sample from each well boring-will be'submitted for chemical analysis as described
in Task 5.
t Soil from each sampled interval will be screened.in the field for the presence of volatile organic
compounds using a photoionization detector(PID).' these data will be collected for reconnaissance
purposes only, and will not be used as verification of the presence or absence of`petroleum .
hydrocarbons.-
Drill
ydrocarbons:Drill cuttings will be stockpiled at the site pending receipt of chemical analytical data. The'drill
cuttings will-.be stockpiled on and covered with plastic sheeting pending disposal. ' Four soil
samples of the drill cuttings will be collected for disposal characterization. These samples will be
submitted to ,the.laboratory for compositing into one sample, and then analyzed, as described in
Task 5.
Task 3, Survey Well Elevations
Following installation, the:top of casing elevations for the newly installed wells will be surveyed to
mean sea level by a California licensed surveyor. Horizontal coordinates of the well locations will
also be obtained by the surveyor.
Task 4.- Well Development and Sampling
GR will develop the newly installed groundwater monitoring wells after they have been allowed to
stand,a minimum of 72 hours following installation. . Groundwater removed from wells during
development .and sampling will be transported to the Tosco Refinery in Rodeo, California, for
disposal_ .Immediately following development, groundwater samples will be collected from the'
wells. The wells will then be added to the regularly scheduled quarterly monitoring and sampling
program.
Task 5. Laboratory Analyses
Selected soil and groundwater -samples will be submitted for chemical analyses to a California
state-certified Hazardous-.Material Testing Laboratory. Samples will be analyzed for TPHg,,TPHd, .
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), and MtBE by DHS LUFT Method; and .
the oxygenates ethanol, methanol,test-butyl alcohol(TBA), MtBE, di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl
tert-butyl ether(ETBE), and tett-amyl methyl ether(TAME) by EPA Method 8260. The stockpile
sail sample will be analyzed for TPHg,BTEX,and MtBE by DHS LUFT Method, and total lead by
:EPA Method 6010: =
Task 6. Report Preparation
Following receipt and analysis of all data, a reort will be prepared which summarizes the
procedures and findings associated with this investigation. This report will be submitted.to Unocal .
and SJCPHS-EHD for their use and distribution.
2400073.04 4 „
