Mr. Kyle Christie Project 20805-146.006
August 5, 1996
Page 7
Approximately 300 cubic yards of soil generated during piping and dispenser
overexcavation activities were stockpiled (SP-2) along the northern part of the site. Soil 1
samples collected at a frequency of four samples per 100 cubic yards were submitted for
profiling analysis. The soil was covered with plastic pending evaluation of analytical results
and aeration procedures.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS k
I
Soil samples collected from the UST and piping excavations were submitted as discrete
samples, and soil samples collected from the soil stockpiles were submitted for compositing
four to one at the laboratory. Samples were analyzed for the following parameters:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) using U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8015M
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX)ryusing USEPA Method 8020
• Methyl-tert-butylether (MTBE) using USEPA Method 8020
In addition, soil sample P-6 collected from beneath the third dispenser island was analyzed
for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using USEPA Method 8010.
Tank Excavation Soil Samples
Analytical results indicate the vertical extent of,petroleum petroleum hydrocarbon impacts in the
southern part of the former.UST complex extend to depths greater than 23 feet bgs (see
the attached table). Detected TPHG`concentrations at depths of 19 to 23 feet bgs ranged
from 1,100 to 3,600 milligrams per+ kilogram (mg/kg). Detected benzene concentrations
ranged from 3.6 to 31 mg/kg. TPHG impacts in the northern part of the former UST
complex were limited in vertical extent to above 19 feet bgs. BTEX constituents !
concentrations in the northern part of the former UST complex were low to below method k
reporting limits. MTBE did not exceed method reporting limits'in tank excavation soil
samples. See the table for analytical results and Appendix A for copies of certified
analytical reports.
i
SA(- Y,\PJW805\08051460.6I)5-95\cjb:3
O
