The following potential exposures and hazards have
been identified:
0 Volatilization of gasoline hydrocarbons during all
operations poses a potential hazard, via the inhalation
of vapors.
0 Skin and eye contact with the impacted soil and water
may occur during drilling, and soil. and groundwater
sampling, as well as when cleaning sampling equipment.
a Atmospheres that contain a level of oxygen greater than
25% pose an extreme fire hazard (the ambient oxygen
level is approximately 20.5%) . This is compounded by
the fact that the vapors are flammable.
0 Look for failing objects, slipping, and tripping
hazards (Visqueen sheet used to hold excavated soil can
be slippery) .
0 Be aware that a heat stress situation may develop when
impermeable protective clothing is worn.
0 Limit exposure time to noisy equipment, such as
Jackhammers, scrapers, compressors, or vacuum trucks.
The noise level can be as high as 100 dba at the
source.
00 MID
3
