Chevron Service Station 9-2033
bgs at CPT borings SB-3 and SB-5 in years 2000 and 2001 indicate that groundwater
may be locally impacted at approximately 85 feet bsg; a short screen well set in the thin
sand at that depth at the down-gradient point on the property near SB-5 may effectively
demonstrate vertical extent of impacted groundwater and lateral extent in that interval.
EHD believes the advancement of CPT borings to the proposed minimum depth of 50
feet bsg may not quite provide the additional information needed to complete the vertical
assessment of impacted soil and groundwater. EHD approves the soil and groundwater
analyses as presented in the work plan for samples collected from the direct-push borings,
and EHD directs that groundwater samples currently collected each quarter from the three
on-site monitoring wells be analyzed for these same compounds.
EHD will not comment at this time on the four proposed monitoring wells, but will after
the results of the CPT investigation have been submitted, as the number and locations of
proposed monitoring wells may change based on the CPT data. Following submittal of
the CPT boring report, please submit an addendum to this work plan for proposed
monitoring wells and provide the technical justification for the well locations and the
screen intervals.
EHD also approves completion of a sensitive receptor survey within a one-half mile
radius of the site and the review of EHD files for LUST sites and private wells to
augment the current data submitted by Secor in the Site Conceptual Model dated March
24, 2004.
Please submit a drilling permit application along with an $89.00 permit fee for each
parcel to EHD by July 13, 2005. Provide EHD with copies of the access agreements
when submitting the permit applications. Also provide EHD with a copy of the health
and safety plan for our information prior to the fieldwork, and notify EHD at least 72
hours prior to commencing the fieldwork.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209)
468-3456, or by electronic mail at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Victoria L.
