• direction of Eric Trevena. An excavator bucket was used to
collect a sample from each location. The samples were
collected by removing the top 3" to 6" of soil in the
bucket, then pushing a brass tube into the soil until
completely filled. Soil samples were collected in clean -six-
inch-long brass tubes ( 2 " in diameter) . Tubes were covered
at both ends with aluminum foil and sealed with plastic end
caps,. The soil samples were then labeled, recorded on a
Chain-of=Custody- form, put in a cooler with ice and
transported to Sequoia Analytical, Inc . located in Redwood
City and Walnut Creek, California.
UST Excavation Sampling
Soil samples designated T1 through- T6 were collected from
beneath the fuel USTs in the excavation bottom in native
soil near each end of the tanks . Soil samples were collected
at approximately 15 feet below grade surface (bgs ) .
Soil samples designated UO and UOB, were collected beneath
the used oil tank at approximately 12 feet bgs . Some of the
chemical analyses for sample UO were inadvertently not
included on the original Chain--of-Custody, therefore sample
UOB was collected in the same approximate location as UO on
March 4, 1997 to analyze for additional chemical compounds .
The used oil tank remote fill piping was sampled (RF-1 . 5 and
01 RF2--2 . 5) at each end on September 11, 1996 under the
direction of Harlin Knoll., a inspector also with SJCPHS .
The approximate sample locations are shown on Figure 2 .
Sample depths and chemical summaries are found in Tables A
and B.
Trench Sampling'
Trenches were excavated to expose and remove underground
product piping and vent lines extending from the fuel UST
complex to the service islands on September 9 , 1996 . Soil
samples P1 through P7 were collected after piping was
removed at depths approximately 1 1/2 to 4 . 5 feet below
grade (Figure 2 ) . Samples were collected from the trench
bottom and then handled as described previously. Sample
depths and chemical analytical results are summarized in
Table A. These samples were collected from locations
designated by Eric Trevena in accordance with the RWQCB and
County Guidelines .
Hoist and Sump Sampling
4 `
One dual post hoist and two semi--hydraulic hoists were
0 removed and discrete soil samples were collected on
Page 2
