12 December 2014
AGE Project No. 12-2169
Page 2 of 7
To establish background concentrations for hexavalent chromium, bromate and other
adverse constituents of concern a background monitoring event will be performed prior
to the start of shallow and intermediate pilot injections. For the shallow injection zone,
wells B3R/VW-1 D, B4R/VW-2D, B5R/VW-3D, MW -4R -D and MW -7S will be analyzed
for the constituents listed below (Figure 1). For the intermediate injection zone wells
MW -81, MW -91 and MW -101 will also be monitored for the constituent list below
(Figure 2).
Field Sampling and Laboratory Analysis:
Field Parameters:
• Depth to water will be measured in shallow and intermediate groundwater
monitoring wells.
• Prior to each purge volume, temperature, pH, TDS, oxygen reduction potential
(ORP), salinity, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) will be recorded at both
monitoring wells.
Laboratory Testing:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA method
8015 modified;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA method 826013;
• Volatile organic compounds by EPA method 826013;
• Inorganic ions bromate, bromide, chloride, nitrate, nitrate as nitrogen, nitrate as
NO3-, and sulfate by EPA method E300.1;
• Aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, cadmium, chromium III, calcium,
cobalt, copper, iron, lead, magnesium, manganese, mercury, molybdenum,
nickel, potassium, selenium, silver, sodium, thallium, acetone, tungsten,
vanadium by EPA method 200.7/8; and
• Hexachrome by IC by EPA method E218.6;
CVRWQCB Comment 2: Calculations documenting the rationale for the 200 -gallon
injection events (e.g. stoichiometric calculations). Central Valley Board staff want to
ensure that an appropriate volume of hydrogen peroxide is injected to assess the
remedial approach while minimizing the potential to mobilize hydrocarbon mass.
The proposed three bi-weekly injections of 200 -gallons (per well) of a diluted peroxide
solution previously proposed in the, In -Situ Chemical Oxidation Pilot Test Work Plan,
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
