7 <br /> Mr Don Rodgers Proposal P96-050 31 <br />• May 14, 1996 <br /> Page 3 <br /> addition, in order to access and drill a boring at the north end of the property, some <br /> equipment may need to be moved and the fenced removed <br /> Task 1 - PreField Activities <br /> EMCON will prepare a workplan describing the proposed assessment and feasibility <br /> activities for agency review and approval The workplan will adhere to Appendix A of <br /> the CRWQCB's Tri-Regional Guidelines and will include a site-specific health and safety <br /> plan and project schedule General exploratory boring and well installation procedures <br /> will be presented as appendices to the workplan <br /> Following approval of the workplan by the SJCPHS, EMCON will obtain the applicable <br /> well installation permits from the SJCPHS Permits may take 2 to 4 weeks to obtain <br /> Task 2 - Field Activities <br /> The following subtasks will be implemented to characterize the soil and groundwater and <br /> provide the necessary wells to conduct soil and groundwater feasibility studies <br />• Subtask 2.A - Drilling Shallow Soil Borings <br /> EMCON will contract a concrete cutter to access soil borings drilled in the concrete slab. <br /> EMCON will contract a licensed well duller to drill three exploratory borings using <br /> hollow-stem auger drilling equipment(see Figure 2) Two of the borings will drilled near the <br /> farmer UST(s) and the other boring will be drilled at the north end of the property The <br /> purpose of drilling the bonngs near the former UST(s) is evaluate the vertical and lateral <br /> extent of petroleum hydrocarbons associated with the a prior unauthorized release The <br /> purpose of the bonng at the north end of the property is to evaluate the vertical extent of <br /> contamination associated with the observed surface staining <br /> Exploratory bonngs will be drilled to 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) using 8-tnch- <br /> diameter hollow stem augers Soil samples will be screened using a phototonization detector <br /> (PID) The boring located at the north end of the property will be drilled using a limited <br /> access drilling ng(Simco ng) The borings will be backfilled with neat cement <br /> Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals or soil changes Two soil samples will be <br /> collected from the borings and will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline <br /> (TPHG) using U S Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8015, for benzene, <br /> toluene,ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) using USEPA Method 8020, and for Methyl <br /> ter-butyl ether (MTBE) using USEPA Method 8020 The two soil samples collected from <br /> . soil borings from beneath the former UST(s) and near the subsurface staining will be <br /> analyzed for total oil grease using USEPA Method 5520 D and F, total petroleum <br /> SACK 1P96-050 31-95Wnis i <br />
