• •
Each soil sample will be field screened with a Photoionization Detection (PID) meter or similar
instrument. The samples collected at three feet bgs from each of the four borings and one 16 to 1
composite sample consisting of the remaining soil samples (those collected every 5 feet) in each
boring, will be placed in a cooler with ice and submitted for laboratory analysis. Following soil
sample collection, the borings will be backfilled with cement grout to the surface.
All drill cuttings, if any, will be stored on-site in a 5-gallon container pending laboratory results.
If laboratory results indicate that analytes are below detection limits in the soil samples from the
borings, then Smith Technology personnel will spread the cuttings on the site. If necessary, based
on analytical results, soil disposal or treatment options will be evaluated.
Soil Sample Analysis
The selected soil samples will be transported, using chain-of-custody record, to a State-certified
laboratory for analysis. Samples from the four borings, five samples total, will be analyzed for:
priority pollutant metals (Sb, As, Be, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, Ni, Se, Ag, TI, and Zn) by EPA 6010A;
fuel fingerprinting (hydrocarbon screen) by EPA 8015M; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes
(BTE3), total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and diesel (TPHd) by EPA methods
602/8020/8015; and pesticides by EPA method 8080.
Report Preparation
Smith Technology will prepare a report for submittal to San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) which will include a description of all field
activities, laboratory analytical results, boring logs, and recommendations, if any. A copy of the
report will also be sent to DPW.
All work described in this proposal will be performed under the direct supervision of a California
Registered Professional Engineer. All field work will be completed in accordance with the field
procedures contained in Attachment I and the Site Safety Plan contained in Attachment 2. A soil
boring permit application is contained in Attachment 3 with a check for the permit fee. Also
enclosed as Attachment 3, please find a completed Master File Record Form, completed by
George Chen of the DPW and the associated fee of$234.
w:197715Veports\ssiwkp.dm 2
SION
