The assessment is being conducted prior to excavation and
removal of existing underground storage tanks and installation of new tanks.
The assessment is intended to determine whether soils surrounding the existing tanks contain
petroleum constituents. If petroleum constituents are present, the assessment will allow for an
estimate of the volume of soils that would be removed during tank placement activities and require
treatment to reduce petroleum constituent concentrations to acceptable levels. Upon removal of the
i 1
existing tanks, soil samples will be collected from below the tanks and submitted to a sta;ty-certified
laboratory for analysis,as required for tank closures.
1.1 Purpose
The pre-tank pull soil assessment will be undertaken to:
o Determine if soiisadjacent to the existing tank basin contain detectable concentrations
4 of petroleum constituents.
o If the soils do contain petroleum constituents, determine the distribution and extent
t of these constituents.
o Determine if soils in the area of the new tank basin contain detectable concentrations
of petroleum constituents.
o Evaluate the need for additional investigation.
12 SCgpg pf 3YOTk
i
To accomplish these objecties, the following work is proposed:
i o Advance exploratory soil borings with a hollow-stem auger drilling rig.
i
km M11000 al MCBMIM111=I IMM
