Charter Way
Stockton,CA 95206
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD), has reviewed the
s
Quarterly Monitoring Report for March 1998 prepared by Wm.J.Hunter&Associates.
Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon as Gasoline (BTEX and
TPHG) constituents were evidenced in the groundwater in Monitor Wells (MWs) 2 and 3. The
concentrations of BTEX and TPHG in MWs 2 and 3 have fluctuated during quarterly monitoring events at
this site from 1992 to 1998. Concentrations of contaminants have increased in these MWs even though .
groundwater has risen over the tops of the well screens. MW 1 continues to evidence TPHG at fluctuating
concentrations.
I -
The source and lateral extent of the contaminant plume at this site'has not been identified. In order to
define the eastern perimeter of the plume, a monitor well with an appropriately placed screen should be II
installed north of MW2 and east of the existing building. A fourth'jMW should be placed on the western I
3 perimeter of the site, between MW1 and MW3 to further identify the plume and to provide more data to
iy determine the possibility of an off site contamination source.
Continue to analyze groundwater quarterly for BTEX,TPHG and Oxygenates.
I Following definition of the contaminant plume at this site, a feasibility study comparing two different
remediation methods will be required by PHS/EHD. As built plans for the air sparging unit already on the
site(as referred to in this QMR)will be required by PHS/EHD.
f
Submit a Work Plan for determining the lateral extent of contamination and the installation of additional
MWs to PHS/EHD by Auaustl5, 1998.
