KLEINFELDER
3 FIELD ACTIVITIES
Kleinfelder conducted field activities to sample the surface and subsurface soil in the vicinity of
the two former AGST and adjacent dispensers Kleinfelder collected soil samples from six
' borings drilled at the site Each borehole was drilled to a depth of 25 feet Soil samples were
collected at 5 foot intervals from each boring and at the ground surface immediately adjacent to
each borehole All the ground surface and borehole samples were submitted for chemical
analysis
' SJCEHD required that a boring permit application be submitted and approved prior to drilling
the soil bonngs Kleinfelder submitted a work plan and boring permit application to Ms
Margaret Laggono of the SJCEHD and a work plan to Mr Joel Weiss of the RWQCB Mr
Weiss provided verbal approval of the work plan on August 25, 1995 The boring permit was
' issued on August 24, 1995, by SJCEHD A copy of the approved boring permit is included in
Appendix A
3 1 Drilling and Subsurface Soil Sampling
' Kleinfelder drilled borings AB-1 through AB-4 and VB-1 and VB-2 on August 29 1995 The
g g g
soil borings identified as AB-1 through AB-4 were drilled 15 degrees from vertical to sample
beneath the former and existing AGSTs The soil borings identified as VB-1 and VB-2 were
vertical borings drilled adjacent to and immediately south of each dispenser pump which
serviced each of the AGSTs (see Plate 2) The surface soil samples were collected immediately
adjacent (within 6 inches) of the corresponding boreholes (AB-1 through AB-4, and VB-1 and
VB-2) on August 30, 1995 The surface samples were collected using a hand trowel The
locations of the six borings are shown on Plate 2 Kleinfelder's field protocol for the drilling and
sampling is provided in Appendix B
The borings were advanced using a truck-mounted drill ng equipped with 8-inch hollow stem
angers Mr Weiss of the RWQCB was present to observe most of the drilling and sampling Soil
' samples were collected at the surface and at 5-foot intervals to the boring's termination depth of
approximately 25 feet below ground surface Soil cuttings from the borings were contained
onsite in 55 gallon drums and were disposed of at Forward Landfill (profile #6891) upon receipt
23-4$2276-AOOITR950096 Page 6 of 12 October 19, 1995
Copyright 1995 Klemfelder, Inc
