r
While it was being processed, the first core barrel was cleaned
with Alconox & clean water, filled with clean metal tubes, and
set aside until needed. The same field procedure described above
was used for preserving, describing, and screening all cored
material
Additional cores were taken at 5' intervals from 10' to 40' as
described above, unused core material and drill cuttings were
placed in metal drums for later disposal The core taken from
301-31'611 contained wet, sticky, sandy gray clay. An interface
probe was run and located fluid at 30' bgl No odors or other
evidence of contamination were noted. However, the core taken
from 351-36'611 had a very faint petroleum odor, and a reading of
2 3 ppm was recorded by the PID meter when inserted in the
plastic bag containing a portion of the core The augers were
advanced to 391, and a final core was taken from 391-40161" it
consisted of wet, sticky blue clay A faint petroleum odor was
noted in some portions of the core, but no visible discoloration
or contamina- tion was noted Drilling ceased at that depth, and
the crew prepared to run casing & complete the well Refer to
PLATE XI for details of lithology, blow counts, recovery, and
other information
2" blank & slotted flush screw- oin
and run to 401; the bottom 20, consistedeofle020"40 PhorizontVC was aal up
shop -made slots with a screw -thread cap on the bottom The
remainder of the casing was blank After placing a cap on the
top of the casing, the annular space between the auger flights &
casing was filled with #3 washed sand by pouring down the annulus
from the surface The pipe was intermittently vibrated, and sand
fill was continually checked with a weighted line. Auger flights
were removed as sand fill increased An interface probe was run
inside the casing and located water at 25.71 bgl After verifying
the top of the sand, (it was at 181, 2 feet above the top of the
perforations,) a bucket of bentonite pellets was poured down the
annulus & wetted with clean water The top of the seal was
located at 16' bgl. After removing all of the auger flights, the
top of the well was covered with a metal drum and the flights
decontaminated prior to moving to the next well Refer to PLATE
XI -A for a schematic diagram of the well completion
After decontamination of all equipment, the rig was mobilized on
the site marked for monitoring well #3, as shown on PLATE X
Cores were taken at 5 foot intervals from 5' bgl to 311611 using
the same field procedures described for MW -4. No odors or PID
readings were detected in any of the cores, or the sediments on
the auger flights Refer to PLATE XII for details of lithology,
blow counts, core recovery, & other data
0
