hardpan subsoil underlain w/unconsolidated sub-stratum. The
soils are derived as outwash from basic igneous sources, (ie, the
Sierra Nevada Batholith, ) The color ranges from dark gray to dark
brownish gray, although the soil removed during the excavation of
the diesel tanks is tan to light brown in color. Drainage is
good to imperfect, and Storie index ranges from 28 to 39. P T
is a portion of a soil profile map from that publication.
DEPTHG UN
During excavation work conducted on the site in May, 1993,
groundwater was encountered at about 35' below grade. This is in
close agreement with the San Joaquin County Flood Control Dis-
trict Map covering the Spring of 1993. Prior to commencement of
drilling operations, water levels in nearby monitoring wells will
be checked to determine latest available data. Based on those
County flood control maps, the water table in the spring of 1983
& 1986 was between 15' & 20 ' bgl.
LOCATION OF HEARRY WEL
A report prepared by Erler & Kalinowski, Inc. indicates the
. presence of 19 groundwater monitoring wells in the area; 6 are
located on the property adjacent to the east, (Nomellini, ) and 3
are on the Stockton Scavenger site to the northwest. The loca-
tions of those wells is shown on PLATE Y, from that report
Groundwater gradient data from that map indicates a general
east-southeast direction.
The owners of the site immediately to the east, 1045 W. Charter
Way, have requested permission to place one or more soil
borings/monitoring wells on the Independent Trucking site in an
attempt to define the westerly limits of a major groundwater
contamination problem which exists beneath their property.
Hydraulic gradients have generally been in an easterly direction,
but significant amounts of gasoline constituents are present in
up-gradient wells. This adds support to the belief that a major
offsite source of contamination exists to the west of the
Independent Trucking property.
BRIEFY OF P
September, 1992 - Septic tank which served maintainance building
taken out of service due to frequent backing up into bathrooms.
November. 1992 -- Septic tank & leach lines uncovered. They were
found to contain waste oil & related petroleum products. Removed
spoil stored on site.
May, 1993 Septic tank emptied and leach field removed. Wooden
3
