City Hall & <br /> County government buildings are about 1 1/4 miles to the north-- <br /> east, and the Port of Stockton & Stockton Deepwater Channel are <br /> approximately one mile to the north. There are no residences in <br /> the immediate area, and building density is quite low. PLATE I <br /> shows the general geographic features; PLATE II is a larger scale <br /> w <br /> map of the area <br /> REGIONAL GE & GF <br /> ,QBQRPHIC P O N E. <br /> The site is located near the southern end of the Sacramento <br /> Valley, a sub-province of what is known as the Great Valley of <br /> California. The Sacramento valley is composed of in excess of <br /> 25,000 feet of sediments derived from uplift & erosion of the <br /> Sierra Nevada Batholith to the east. The sediments range in age <br /> from Recent to Cretaceous & possibly older, and consist of sands, <br /> gravels, silts & clays produced by repeated reworking of the <br /> outwash from the Sierras. <br /> Relief is very flat, less than 5' /mile, with drainage to the west <br /> towards the Sacramento-Stockton Delta area. French Camp & Duck <br /> sloughs join with the San Joaquin river about 1 1/2 miles to the <br /> south of the site which empties into the Delta area to the west. <br /> River, which drains into the Delta, is about 1 1/2 miles to the <br /> southeast. They are very similar in <br /> profile, being developed on older plains or terraces with a <br /> 2 <br />
