I DETAILS OF WORK PERFORMED UNDER JTO WORKPLAN DATED 12 7 1994 : December 13 1994 - W_ J. Hunter, RG from Wm J. Hunter & Associates, arrived on location at 0915. Martin Thorpe & Jamie Thorpe of Jim Thorpe Oil Co. , Inc_ were on site unloading a large excavator & backhoe_ The spoil removed during tank pulling operations was stored on site adjacent to the excavations, which had been left open & fenced off . The removed spoil from the waste oil tank site was also stored at this location The removed spoil had been previously profiled, and was to be loaded onto double trailer dump trucks using the backhoe, and hauled directly to Forward, Inc. , for disposal_ The excavator began on the west end of the site which had contained the 10, 000 gallon UST; spoil was placed on the ground, picked up by the backhoe, loaded directly into trucks & taken to Forward, Inc. Obvious petroleum contamination was noted on the bottom and sides at between 1.0' & 12' . This is the area where a soil sample taken at 15' beneath the removed tank measured 6, 000 mg/kg of TPH as diesel; refer to TABLE VI for a summary of the laboratory analyzes from the tank removals The lithology consisted of sandy clay & dense clay, with some interbeds of sticky blue-gray clay. The sandy clay intervals had the strongest odor, although the blue clay was also obviously stained. Excavating continued to about 15' ; some layers of calcareous clay, ( "hardpan" , ) were encountered. A storm drain line which appeared to be made of transite was discovered between the north tank & the two south tanks. It had previously been patched in the approximate center of the site, and there was definite evidence of downward leaching from the pipe into the soil beneath. The excavator was then moved to the west end of the south tank site, and removed spoil down to a depth of approximately 15' below grade. Material was removed along the storm dram pipe, but no evidence of contamination was noted in the hole. The excavator then moved to the east side of the south tank site, and removed spoil down to about 18' below grade. There was no evidence of contamination, and no odors or discoloration were observed. Linda Turkatte & Ron Rowe of the San Joaquin County EBD arrived at about 1100 & observed excavation activities for some time It was decided that soil samples would be taken later that day, and they left for other sites. The excavator then moved to the southeast end of the south tank site, and removed material down to approximately 18 ' below grade There were no odors or other evidence of contamination.
