y
i
As discussed in the I" Semi-Annual 2012 Groundwater Monitoring & Remedial Effectiveness
report dated June 29a', 2012, following nine (9) months of the Phase I feasibility study, hydrogen
peroxide injection was chosen for Phase II of the remedial action plan. In the report, GTI
recommends that the 1-year feasibility study (Phase I) cease and begin implementing Phase II of
remediation by expanding the hydrogen peroxide injection scheme. In a letter dated October 9a`,
2012, SJCEHD approved the recommendations made in the 1"Semi-Annual 2012 Groundwater
Monitoring & Remedial Effectiveness report and directed that GTI prepare and submit a
Corrective Action Plan outlining Phase II of remediation by December 14th, 2012.
GTI completed the final Phase I hydrogen peroxide injection event and monthly groundwater
monitoring event on July 13`h and July 30th, 2012, respectively. GTI began implementing the
interim remedial plan on August 1", 2012, which included:
• Removal of the ORC Advanced socks and start bi-monthly hydrogen peroxide injections
in injection well IW-1.
• Cease researching natural attenuation and start bi-monthly hydrogen peroxide injections
in injection well IW-3.
• Reduce the frequency of hydrogen peroxide injections into injection well IW-2 from bi-
monthly to monthly.
• Continue air sparging in injection well IW-4.
• Reduce groundwater monitoring for remedial performance from monthly to a quarterly,
using the same wells, sampling procedures and laboratory analysis.
GTI continued implementing the interim remedial plan as described above thru October 5`h,
2012. The interim remedial plan was modified and approved by SJCEHD in an email dated
October 18`h, 2012. The modified interim remedial plan has the following changes:
• Monthly hydrogen peroxide injections into injection wells IW-1, IW-2 and IW-3.
• Continue air sparging in injection well IW-4.
• Omit the 4`h quarter (October) groundwater monitoring event and begin quarterly
groundwater monitoring in the 151 Quarter of 2013 (January).
On August 15, 2012 GTI submitted a change order to the Fund requesting additional funding to
continue the implementation of the interim remedial plan and implement Phase II of the remedial
action plan upon approval from SJCEHD. GTI is currently waiting for a response from the Fund.
Proposed 4th Quarter 2012 Activities
It is anticipated that during the 4th Quarter 2012, GTI will continue implementing the modified
interim remedial plan and submit a Corrective Action Plan outlining Phase II of the remedial
plan by December 14th, 2012 as directed in an SJCEHD letter dated October 9th, 2012.
The 4th quarter 2012 groundwater monitoring event has been omitted per an SJCEHD email
dated October 18'h, 2012. Quarterly groundwater monitoring events will begin in the I't quarter
of 2013.
3r°QMR 12 letter format 2 of 3
