r H
CAMBRIA
1
collected from the tank excavation bottom using a backhoe. The soil was removed from the
backhoe bucket, packed into clean brass sample tubes, and tube ends were covered with Teflon
tape and plastic end caps. Soil samples were labeled, placed into a cooler with ice, entered
onto a Chain of Custody record, and transp rted to a California-certified analytical
laboratory. i
All soil samples were analyzed for total purg able petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPPH) by EPA Method 8015 (Modified), benze e, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX),
and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) by EPA Method 8020, and fuel oxygenates by,EPA
Method 8260A. Selected soil samples were alo analyzed for total lead by EPA Method
6010A..
Dispenser and Product Piping Soil Sampling: Four product dispensers were removed and
product piping in the dispenser areas was also removed prior to Cambria's arrival onsite. The
remaining product piping was excavated and removed while Ms. Briggs and Cambria personnel
were onsite. Soil samples from beneath the former product dispensers (DS-1 through DS-4)
and piping (P-1 through P-4) were collected ot locations specified by the SJCPHS. , Four
samples were collected from native soil beneath the four former product dispensers at
approximate depths ranging from 4.0 to 5.0 lbg. Four soil samples were collected. from
iping at approximate depths ranging from 3.5 to
native soil beneath the former product p
5.0 fbg. Sample locations are shown on Plate 2. These soil samples were analyzed for
TPPH, BTEX and MTBE, and fuel oxygenates. Selected samples were analyzed for lead.
Soil Disposal: All excavated soil was stored o isite and covered with plastic sheeting: The
soil stockpile was sampled and profiled for disposal. On May 21, 1999, Manley and Sons
Trucking, Inc. of Sacramento, California transported approximately 689 tons of soil to
Forward, Inc.'s Manteca, California landfill.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Tank excavation, dispenser island, and product line soil sample analytical results are
summarized in Table 1 and-presented on Plate _ The certified analytical reports are included
in Appendix A. A summary of these data is presented below.
UST Excavation: Six samples were collected at 14.0 to 15.0 fbg in the tank excavation.
Sample TS-D contained TPPH at a concentration of 4.59 parts per million (ppm). '` TPPH
was not detected (ND) in the other tank pit samples. Benzene and MTBE were ND in all
samples collected from the UST excavation.
201-1511
