tb c4 r
.CAMBRIA
these tests were somewhat anomalous The pore pressure never
stabilized in one test, so depth to water could not be determined
Another test yielded a very shallow depth to water and was
considered anomalous The other two tests yielded results
suggesting groundwater is between 36 5 to 44 fbg These results
are more reasonable based on information from SJCPHS/EHD
staff regarding depth to groundwater in the area
The moisture content of soil samples collected from boring SB-1
was also evaluated to determine the depth of first groundwater
Groundwater was not observed in the soil samples until we
reached the depth of 60 fbg Based on this data and the pore
pressure dissipation tests it is not clear at what depth first
groundwater occurs beneath the site However, our groundwater
samples were collected at a depth of 67 fbg, so it is safe to say
that first groundwater occurs at 67 fbg or shallower
• Soil Types Soil types encountered in the borings were predominantly fine-
grained soils (clay, silty clay, silt, clayey silt, sandy silt) with
lesser amounts of course-grained soil (sand, silty sand, and
gravelly sand The course-grained soil were found in SB-2 from
two fbg to 10 fbg (this is probably fill material) and in SB-3 at
69 to 70 fbg Another soil type encountered was "stiff fine-
grained" which is a CPT electronic logging category that does
not translate directly the Unified Soil Classification System
Chemical Analyses Groundwater and soil samples were analyzed for TPHg, BTEX,
fuel oxygenates (including ethanol and methanol) and lead
scavengers (1,2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA], and ethylene
dibromide [EDB]) One exception to this was the soil samples
from boring SB-2 were inadvertently not analyzed for methanol
and ethanol
HYDROCARBON DISTRIBUTION IN SOIL
Soil samples were collected from boring SB-1 at 10 5, 215, 30 5, 40 5, 50 5, and 70 fbg to assess
. the vertical extent of gasoline constituents in the soil TPHg was detected in the 10 5, 215, and
1511 3
j
