Hayes SITE CODE: 2546
2005 Navy Drive
Stockton, CA 95206
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) is the lead agency providing
the oversight of the investigation and cleanup of releases from underground storage tanks
(UST) within San Joaquin County. EHD has a contract with the California State Water
Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to conduct a UST corrective action program. The above
referenced site is in the EHD Local Oversight Program as a result of the petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination found in the soil samples collected beneath the UST's removed from the above
subject site in 1987.
An assessment of the extent of the petroleum contamination at the site began in October 1999.
Six on-site locations were selected and soil and groundwater samples were collected for
analysis. Groundwater was encountered at approximately 15 feet below surface grade (bsg)
and groundwater sample results documented total petroleum hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPH-g),
total petroleum hydrocarbon as diesel (TPH-d), and some halogenated organic compounds
(chlorinated solvents).
Additional groundwater assessment was warranted and in December 2003 three shallow
monitoring wells (MWs) and one deeper MW were installed on-site. The wells were installed by
Ramcon Engineering and Environmental Contracting. Monitoring wells MW1, MW2 and MW3
are screened from 12-25 feet bsg where groundwater is first encountered and MW4 is screened
deeper, from 45-50 feet bsg. There were no detections of TPH-g or TPH-d in any of the soil
samples collected and analyzed, but some chlorinated solvents were detected in all the soil and
groundwater samples collected and analyzed. Low concentrations of gasoline and diesel
constituents (benzene and xylene) were found in the groundwater samples from MW2 and
MW4. The groundwater samples from MW1 and MW 3 had no detections of the gasoline and
diesel constituents.
The EHD has not received any reports of investigation of this site since the initial report on the
installation and sampling of the four monitoring wells was submitted in June 2004.
