CORROSIVES <br />DEFINITION: Substances with a PH level less than (<) 2 or greater <br />than (>) 12.5. <br />Stora4e and Handling Guidelines <br />1. Avoid inhalation, skin and eye contact by wearing appropriate <br />protective equipment. <br />2. Whenever eye or skin contact has been made rinse fora minimum <br />of 15 minutes with cool water and supervisor. <br />3. Store separately from other (FCOPER) materials. <br />4. Store corrosive acids and bases separately. <br />5. Always add water to acids. <br />6. Respiratory equipment should be worn when used outside a fume <br />hood or when no local ventilation is available. <br />Spill Clean -Up Procedures <br />ALWAYS USE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT. <br />Liquids <br />1. Take PH of material in several locations, then average <br />2. CONTAIN spill with Safestep or spill pillows on perimeter. <br />3. TRANSFER back to original container if possible (need teflon <br />or neoprene diaphragm pump) <br />or <br />3. NEUTRALIZE <br />Slowly pour from the outside of spill towards canter. <br />Acids = Neutrasorb see side of box for neutralizing limits. <br />Bases = Neutracit see side of box for neutralizing limits. <br />4. MIX <br />5. Spill is neutralized when the color changes back to the <br />original color of neutralizer agent. <br />NOTE: If neutralization is not possible contain and then transfer (if possible) <br />into polypropylene or plastic container or absorb with Safestep or <br />spill pillows. <br />Solids <br />1. VACUUM up with dry vacuum only or sweep up. <br />2. Transfer back to original container if possible. <br />
