STORAGE AND HANDLING PROCEDURES
1. Chain all gas cylinders individually 113 way down from top of
cylinder with chain (no cloth) to a stationary source (wall)
2. Safety relief valves must be provided to limit system pressures.
3. Gas cylinders must be transported chained onto a cylinder cart
designed for the size of the cylinder.
4. All piping and system componets must be carefully checked for
leaks (with snoop -soapy water in squeeze bottle) before release
for service. If bubbles form there is a leak.
5. Ensure valve caps are on when storing, moving or transporting
cylinders.
6. Containers must never be painted.
7. Damaged compressed gas containers should not be used. They
should be immediately returned to the supplier.
8. Store in a cool, dry place.
9. Empty containers should be appropriately labled. Empty
containers mean: CYLINDER IS USED - DOES NOT MEAN VOID OF
CONTENTS H H H
10. Cylinders should be stored in like (FCOPER) groups, the same as
liquids and solids.
LEAKING OR DAMAGED CYLINDER PROCEDURES
ALWAYS USE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Identify hazard class.
2. if a leak can not be remedied by tightening a valve gland or
or packing nut, the valve shall be closed.
3. A tag should be attached to it stating that the container is
unserviceable.
4. Remove outside or in fume hood until vendor has picked up with
hazard warning sign.
FLAMMABLE
1. Eliminate ignition sources.
