RECEIVED
OCT 0 9:1986
FOX ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES, INC.
8015 West Cliff 7 • Knoxville, TN 37919 • (615) 690-1996
A
October 8, 1986
Mr. James C. Thompson
Kayo Oil Company
900 South Cherokee Lane
Lodi , CA 95240
RE: Fast Gas Station
800 East Highway 12
Lodi , CA
Dear Mr. Thompson:
The following report is a summalrization of the environmental remediation efforts
that have been performed by Fox' Environmenta Services, at the Fast Gas Service
Station located at 800 East Highway 12 in Lodi , CA during the period of January
1 , 1986 to October 1 , 1986.
On January 3 , 1986 the hydrocarbon recovery and groundwater restoration unit was
placed in fulltime operation, following two months of trial runs and testing.
This unit has been in continuous operation s nce January 3, 1986 except for a
three week period in February 11986. The uni was shut down at the request of
San Joaquin County Environmental Health District because of heavy rains, which
caused escessive water levels inn the percola ion pond, where the recovery system
effluent is discharged. When t"he rains subs ded, and the percolation pond would
again accomodate the effluent, !the system wa again started.
In the second week in March, an infiltration trench was installed in the west
side of the storage tank backfill to provide a reinjection and secondary dis-
charge point. This secondary discharge poin was used on a trial basis for the
remainder of March, the month of April , and he first week in May. The method
of entry into the secondary discharge point s a four inch PVC pipe that is
located high up on the percolation pond wall which allows water to enter the
secondary system when the water level in the percolation pond is allowed to
rise to that point. The result: of this trial period is not conclusive, but a
marked increase in measurable product was re orded for MW # 10 on June 23, 1986
and during the month of July, 268 gallons of gasoline was recovered. The
quantity of phased product that has been rec vered at this location has been
very low in relation to the galilons of water pumped through the recovery system,
but the tightness of the soil is retarding tie progress of the product flow
back to the recovery well .
Should it be desirable, the recovery system ffluent can be connected to the
secondary discharge point , for ,,direct entry Droviding for a selected percentage
of the effluent to enter the secondary syste .
The recovery system has continued to operate throughout the months of August
and September, with only occasional temporary interruption for system cleaning.
The groundwater being pumped at this locatioi contains certain bacterial
