Sterilization of liquids (i.e., broth, agar, dilution <br /> blanks, etc.) requires a liquid cycle. Minimum <br /> sterilization time for liquids is 20 minutes but depends <br /> — - on the volume of liquid in each container and the number <br /> of items being autoclaved. <br /> A. The multi-therm cycle is required for melting solidified <br /> agar, or for pasteurization of samples or media that are <br /> heat labile. <br /> Unlasding the Chamber after Completed Cycle <br /> 1. Before attempting to open the chamber door. double-check <br /> the chamber pressure reading. It mus} reed zero before <br /> - --• the door can be opened. <br /> 2. .Carefully unwind the door wheel counterclockwise until it <br /> releases. Gently open door and stand away from the <br /> opening to avoid escaping steam. After the chamber has <br /> cleared of steam, remove the sterilized item(s) from the <br /> autoclave while wearing heat-resistant gloves. Care <br /> should be taken not to touch the hot sides of the chamber <br /> itself or the door. <br /> : . E ui ment Shut-Off <br /> 1 . Press the MANUAL RESET button. <br /> 2. Press the OFF button. <br /> 3.. Turn off the exhaust hood fen at the end of the day. <br /> ROUTINE MAINTENANCE: <br /> 5 _ Check the drain screen near the front of the chamber <br /> periodically to make sure it does not clog. Service for the <br /> autoclave is under contract with Castle/Sybran. A service <br /> t representative maintains the autoclave quarterly; this service is <br /> documented in the Equipment Notebook, which is kept in the <br /> technicians' office. <br /> r, <br /> NONROUTINE MAINTENANCES <br /> t <br /> In the event of equipment failure or malfunction, Site <br /> Maintenance in notified. Castle/Sybran is contacted when Site <br /> r Maintenance is unable to repair the unit.
