J
Mr. Thomas Hendrix
Page Two
November 25, 1991
In general, the results of soil and groundwater sampling and chemical testing
from the Kleinfelder boring and monitoring well indicate the presence of Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene at varying
concentrations.Tests on soil samples revealed hydrocarbon detections as deep as 40 feet
in the test boring. In general, soils exhibited lower hydrocarbon concentrations with
greater depth. Benzene concentrations in groundwater range from an initial level of
0.382 mg/l (April 1986), to 0.350 mg/l in May/June 1988, and "Not Detected" (less than
0.0(05 mgA) in July 1991. Toluene was present in all three tests of groundwater at
concentrations of 0.115 mg11, 0.012 mg/l and 0.0043 mg/l, respectively.
Groundwater in the Site area is reported to flow towards the southwest according
to local water district information (Fall, 1989), Several wells exist in the Site area as
observed in a brief reconnaissance of the Munford Avenue area. Some wells were
fo,ind and plotted on the sketch map in Figure 2. No details regarding well depth,
construction or other data were available on the welly at this time.
RECO"V'1%'_ENDED WORK PLAN
This letter report and recommendations for additional work is prepared in
acrordancr with the County's letter request to Thomas E. Hendrix dated September 11,
Rccause of the low concentrations of fuel-related components in the tests results,
,additional groundwater sampling and analysis on a quarterly basis fox Oric year is
recommended. At the same time, a more detailed survey of graundwajer cCtT'd ions in
the "etc area will be completed. Sampling and chemical testing of water fr,m it
wells near clected
the: site will be performed in the first quarter. Currently, the tank arra
mo nrtrirnng 13,01, the "house" well and the neighbors well to the west nrr prc)p()ticd for
`amPfinw and analysts (Vigure 2). Groundwater information atiariahlu fjr)m the local
/ate, cy and local well owners will be collected and reviewed fc)r pt)sjs,, ;e rn
ouna' r gradient and water quality determinations,
Other potential sources of hydrocarbon contaminataar, exist in
`these will he examined and an evaluation of their potential as Off-site
site ,;,rc i
groundwater contaminarion will be made. rte sou.%CS of
011cv the four quarters of sampling and analysis and the other data are gathered
and evaluated, a report of our findings will be prepared. In that report, addito
ional r
data may be needed to accurately define the site groundwater quality condrtisite
ns.
n
