2. SITE DESCRIPTION
2.1 Site Location
The Tracy site is situated along the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks, near
the intersection of Franklin and Acacia Streets in Tracy, California. The
site is located within the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter of
' Section 22, Township 2 South, Range 5 East. Figure 1 shows the site
location.
Currently, the Tracy site is wholly owned by PG&E and used as a service
' center and substation. There is one office building on the site.
Approximately 28 employees and 20 vehicles are typically onsite. The site
is completely fenced. Approximately 95% of the site is paved with asphalt
or concrete.
The Tracy site is surrounded by agricultural land to the east; a railroad,
pet food plant, and form manufacturing company to the west; manufacturing
facilities to the south; and residential properties to the north.
2.2 Site Geology
The Tracy site is located within the northwestern part of the San Joaquin
Valley between the San Joaquin River to the east, the Coast Range to the
1 west, and the Old River (a channel of the San Joaquin River) to the north.
The San Joaquin Valley is the southern portion of the Great Valley
geomorphic province, which is a topographic and structural basin bounded on
the east by the Sierra Nevada fault block and on the west by the Coast
Ranges. The basin is filled with a thick sequence of sedimentary rocks,
ranging in age from Jurasic to Recent, which were deposited on a crystalline
basement.
The Tracy site is situated on a veneer of young flood plain deposits that
overlie older Recent deposits. This veneer consists mainly of clays and
silts. The Recent deposits consist of unconsolidated clays, silts, sands
and gravels to a depth of over 100 feet. This sequence overlies the
Corcoran Clay Member of the Pleistocene -age Tulare Formation. The Corcoran
1 3542a/BAV102 3
