1
Environmental Health Department will be invited onsite to inspect and
approve the grouting of the monitoring wells.
1 3542a/BAV102 15
After allowing the grout to set, each monitoring well will be finished with
a tamper-resistent, watertight street box set into concrete. The street
'
boxes will be set slightly above the existing grade to provide additional
infiltration A
protection against of surface water. watertight cap will
also be placed over the end of each well casing inside the street box.
4.2.2.2 Monitoring well development and sampling
Each monitoring well will be developed by pumping with a centrifugal pump.
Due to the fine texture of the aquifer matrix surrounding the wells, it is
'
expected that turbidity will be relatively high and may not be
significantly reduced by development. Water production is expected to be
slow at all wells.
Each well will be purged with a centrifugal pump a minimum of three well
volumes prior to collecting a sample for analysis. An exception to this
procedure will be made for wells that recharge very slowly. These wells
will be evacuated and allowed to recharge to at least 80% of their initial
water column prior to collecting a sample. Electrical conductivity, pH, and
turbidity will be monitored during the purging process. Purging will
continue until these parameters have stabilized, to ensure that
representative samples are collected.
After purging, groundwater samples will be collected with a teflon bailer
from all monitoring wells. The bailer will be thoroughly cleaned between
wells with successive rinses of a biodegradable soap (Alconox)/deionized
water solution, methanol, and deionized water. The samples will be
transferred from the bailer to appropriate sample bottles with as little
turbulance as possible. Sample containers for volatile constituents will be
visually inspected after filling to ensure that no air bubbles are trapped
in the container.
1 3542a/BAV102 15
