fl
G
G'
fl
0
11
n
fl
0
accompany the collected groundwater samples to Eureka Laboratories for
analysis. The blanks will consist of de -ionized water sealed in clean
containers. The blanks will be analyzed for BTEX (modified EPA Method 602),
which is a common field contaminant indicator.
5.2.2 Field blanks
Field blanks will be collected during the course of groundwater sampling to
detect contamination of the groundwater samples during collection. One set
of field blanks will be prepared during the groundwater sampling effort.
Field blanks will be prepared by filling a cleaned bailer with de -ionized
water and pouring the water into appropriate sample containers for analysis.
Field blanks will be analyzed for PNAs, BTEX, phenols, CAM metals, cyanides,
and sulfides so that the effectiveness of field collection and cleaning
techniques can be checked.
5.2.3 Duplicate groundwater samples
Duplicate groundwater samples will be collected and analyzed to track the
consistency in field sampling techniques. The duplicate samples will be
collected immediately after the primary sample at the same location, using
the same sampling equipment and procedures. In accordance with EPA SW -846,
duplicates will be taken for 10% of the groundwater samples obtained.
5.2.4 Duplicate soil samples
Duplicate soil samples will be collected to check the variability of
chemical analytes found in the soil. Duplicates will be collected for 10%
of the soil samples analyzed. Because soils are usually not homogeneous in
nature, it is difficult to obtain similar analytical results from a
duplicate sample unless it originates from the same medium and location as
the primary sample.
5.3 Sample Identification
A numbering system for sample identification and tracking will be used to
provide a record of information on each sample and sample suite, and to
prevent sample loss or mixup. The sample identification system will be
written in a field notebook, with a complete list of samples collected.
1 3542a/BAV102 27
