The SSO has the authority to temporarily stop work if conditions are deemed
unsafe, and will confer with the field crew regarding corrective actions.
The gas plant project manager and Tracy service center manager will be
notified immediately by the SSO in the event of a serious hazard or
exposure.
' Prior to initiating field work, the SSO will determine the background
ambient level of organic vapors, using a photoionization detector (PID) or
organic vapor analyzer (OVA). The drilling area will be clearly marked with
barricade tape after equipment is positioned, in order to confine any
' contamination and minimize any exposure to workers in the general area. A
decontamination area will be delineated for washing and steam cleaning
drilling equipment.
6.5.3 Personal protective equipment level description
Level D - boots, inner gloves, outer neoprene or nitrile gloves, uncoated
Tyvek coveralls taped over boots and gloves, hardhat, safety glasses, foam
earplugs.
Level C - all level D equipment except safety glasses, plus half -mask
respirator with organic vapor/HEPA filter cartridges (includes 5 -minute
escape capability).
Level B - all Level D equipment except safety glasses, plus full -face,
' positive pressure demand, supplied -air respirator with 5 -minute escape
capability.
It is expected that during the entire field investigation the required level
of protection will not exceed level D.
' 6.5.4 Air monitoring vrotocols
During drilling activities, the designated SSO will regularly monitor worker
breathing zones and open boreholes, using the OVA. OVA measurements will be
recorded every half hour of the work day.
1 3542a/BAV102 34
