Using OSHA/NIOSH/EPA Guidance Manual recommendations, the allowable exposure
limit in the worker breathing area for total organic vapor (using the OVA
meter as a measuring device) averaged over an eight-hour work period will be
5 parts per million above background levels. If this exposure level is
exceeded, the workers will be required to wear level C protective gear.
' When airborne dust is present in visible quantities, air purifying
respirators will be worn to eliminate possible exposure to lead.
6.5.5 Safetyeeq_uivment
• Monitoring; Instruments
TIP 1 photoionization detector (PID)
Thermoelectron model 580A organic vapor analyzer
•
Personal Protective EguiMment
'
Inner vinyl gloves
Outer neoprene or nitrile gloves
Safety glasses
Foam earplugs
Hardhats
Half -mask respirators
MSA GMC -H cartridges
Tyvek coveralls
Vinyl shoe covers
• Emergency Equipment
First aid kit
Eyewash kit
' Safety blanket
ABC fire extinguisher
Isopropanol
' 6.5.6 Heat stress monitoring
Special care will be taken when performing field work in warm climates
' (average temperature above 75°F).
