Batteries (i.e., each battery), or a container in which the batteries are contained, shall <br /> be labeled or marked clearly with the following phrase: "Universal Waste-Battery(ies)". Employee <br /> transferred the UW batteries into a box, closed it, labeled it as "Universal Waste Batteries", and marked <br /> it with an accumulation start date. Corrected on site. <br /> 84. The box of UW batteries had a date of 8/09. A UW handler shall accumulate UW for no longer than <br /> one year from the date the UW was generated, or was received from another UW handler. A UW <br /> handler shall be able to demonstrate the length of time that the UW has been accumulated from the date <br /> it became a waste or was received. The UW handler may make this demonstration by: <br /> (1) Placing the UW in a container and marking or labeling the container with the earliest date that any <br /> UW in the container became a waste or was received. <br /> (2) Marking or labeling the individual item of UW with the date it became a waste or was received. <br /> (3) Maintaining an inventory system on site that identifies the date the UW being accumulated became a <br /> waste or was received. <br /> (4) Maintaining an inventory system on site that identifies the earliest date that any UW in a group of <br /> items of UW or group of containers of UW became a waste or was received; <br /> (5) Placing the UW in a specific accumulation area and marking or labeling the area to identify the <br /> earliest date that any UW in the area became a waste or was received; or <br /> (6) Any other method which clearly demonstrates the length of time that the UW has been accumulated <br /> from the date it became a waste or was received. <br /> Employee explained that the UW batteries were properly disposed of during a UW collection event last <br /> April 2010, but that a disposal record was not provided for it. The current UW batteries on site were <br /> placed into a closed container and marked with the accumulation start date of April 2010. Employee <br /> acknowledged that the UW batteries need to be disposed within one year of the accumulation start date. <br /> Employee acknowledged that the UW batteries need to be disposed before May 1, 2011. Corrected on <br /> site. <br /> Complete and submit a copy of the Return to Compliance Certification form with a statement of how <br /> each violation was corrected, including supporting documentation, by 5-13-11. <br /> Less than half of one ton of HW generated in 2010.
