ATE OF CALIFORNIA GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN, Govemor
ALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
-
'ENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3201 S STREET,'
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA 95816-7090
PHONE: (916)445-0270
30 April 1986 1
N1 AY 2 l90u
ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH
Mr. Dan DeAngelis FERMIT/SERVICES
Stockton Metropolitan Airport
5000 S. Airport Way, Room 202 _
Stockton, CA 95306
REVIEW OF LABORATORY REPORTS
I have reviewed the analytical results for the Stockton Airport wash water
evaporation pond samples that were collected and analyzed by California Water
Laboratories, Inc. The reports state that samples were collected from the
bottom of the polyethylene lined pond and analyzed by EPA Methods 625, 8320, and
8140 for organochlorine, carbamate, and, organophosphate compounds respective-
ly. Volatile organics were not analyzed for because no degreasers or solvents
were reported to be used on-site. No pesticides were found above detection
limits. Based on these results, the evaporation pond does not contain hazardous
or designated waste levels of pesticides.
You have indicated a desire to continue to utilize the pond for evaporation of
wash water from non -applicator aircraft. I have discussed your desire with Dan
Ward of our office, and he indicates that such usage will not require a permit
from the Regional Water Quality Control Board. Nor, per Jim Miller, will it
require a permit from the County. You must, however, manage the facility to
ensure that no hazardous materials are discharged into the pond. If any
solvents, degreasers, caustics, or other potentially hazardous materials are to
be discharged to the pond you will need to file a Report of Waste Discharge with
this office.
Please contact me if you have further questions on water quality regulations
that apply to surface impoundments.
JOHN L.
