Main Street 0 Ontario, California 91781 • Office (714) 983-0T72 0 24 Hours (213) 884-8220 <br />December 19, 1985 <br />Mr. Dan De Angelis <br />Operations Manager <br />Stockton Airport <br />5000 South Airport Way <br />Stockton, California 95206 <br />Dear Mr. De Angelis: <br />Attached is a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet describing <br />PHOS-CHEKt°' D -75F retardant which is mixed for the U.S. Forest <br />Service by Hemet Valley Flying Service at the Stockton Airport. <br />While the exact composition of the Phos-Chek retardants is <br />proprietary, it has been divulged to authorized research <br />personnel within the U.S. Forest Service and they have qualified <br />its use by participating Federal and State Agencies. Following <br />is a review of the composition in general terms. <br />Although Phos-Chek D -75F retardant is sold in dry powder form, it <br />is mixed with water prior to use at a rate of 1.2 pounds per <br />gallon to produce an approximately 13.58 aqueous solution. The <br />monoammonium phosphate, NH4H2PO4, is a technical grade of product <br />produced specifically for use as a fire retardant salt from <br />phosphoric acid and anhydrous ammonia. In its less pure form, <br />t'his material is used in large quantities as an agricultural <br />fertilizer, also.
