Corrective Action Plan Page 40
Treated-Water Discharge Monitoring
The quality of the water discharged from the groundwater treatment system will be
monitored to check for compliance with the requirements of NPDES Permit No
CA0082929 Samples for this purpose will be taken once per week for four consecutive
weeks after groundwater pumping is started and monthly thereafter The cumulative total
of effluent discharged from the treatment system will also be recorded on a monthly
schedule
' Samples of the discharge will be drawn from the sampling port installed in the piping
downstream of the activated carbon treatment units (i a immediately upstream of the
point of discharge of the treated water to the storm sewer) (See Figure I l for sampling
port location) The sample water will be directed into clean glassware supplied by the
laboratory via a tube connected to the sampling port so as to completely fill the vials The
sample vials will then be tightly closed, labeled for identification, entered into chain-of-
custody control and packed on chemical ice for transport to the laboratory within 24
hours
These samples will be analyzed as follows
Analyte Method of Analysis
pH EPA Method 150 1
Specific Conductivity EPA Method 120 1
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons 2 EPA Method 5030/8015M
(as Gasoline)
Benzene l EPA Method 602
Toluene 1 EPA Method 602
Ethyl Benzene l EPA Method 602
Total Xylenes l s 1 EPA Method 602
e
Lead (Total) 2 EPA Method 239 2
Bioassay 3 % Survival of Pimephales promelas
Notes
I If any of these constituents are detected in a monthly sampling of the discharge, the effluent will be re-
sampled immedia(el) and sampling and anal}sis will continue on a weekly basis until the concentration(s)
arc below detectable levels
