The facility consists of a fresh
tomato packing facility. The facility has produced surplus chlorinated waste water that was
-- stored in an unlined surface impoundment. Groundwater contamination by chloroform at
concentration levels of approximately 150 parts per billion (ppb) have recently been sampled from
well MW-6 north of the site. A groundwater extraction well is being installed near MW-6
— through soils (possibly contaminated). For perspective on health risks, chloroform levels of 100
ppb are permissible in chlorinated drinking water .
The groundwater extraction well will be installed to a depth of approximately 100 feet below
ground surface in a working orchard north of the Triple E Produce Facility. There is no known
surface contamination in the area of work. The hot, and climate results in elevated temperatures
and bright, reflected sunlight at the ground surface. During wet weather, powdery soils may
become slick.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project will consist of drilling a borehole approximately 100 feet deep through the upper
layers of the subsurface and below the groundwater table, constructing an extraction well, and
fitting the necessary piping and electrical utilities to service the well site.
FIELD ACTIVITIES COVERED BYTHIS SSP
The field activities covered by this site safety plan include drilling and completion of a
groundwater extraction well and sampling groundwater. Work will be conducted west of
Monitoring Well MW-6
SAFETY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
All Condor personnel, Condor subcontractors, and consultants that are permitted to engage in
hazardous waste operations that could expose them to hazardous substances, safety, or health
hazards must have the necessary health and safety training and medical surveillance as specified in
29 CFR 1910.120.
— A-3 I'VIWO
s
L J CONDOR
