The exclusion zone for the drill rig work area will be a 30- <br /> foot radius around the rig. Only authorized personnel will be permitted within the <br /> r <br /> exclusion zone. No smoking will be permitted in the exclusion zone. <br /> 4.4 Noise <br /> Noise may be a hazard in the vicinity of excavators and drill rigs. Hearing protection will <br /> be worn when working near heavy equipment or loud mechanical equipment. <br /> 4.5 [feat Stress <br /> Heat stress will be a hazard during hot weather and will be intensified when workers are in <br /> protective clothing. Workers will be required to take breaks, as needed,to prevent heat <br /> stress and to consume adequate quantities of liquid. <br /> 5.0- AMBIENT AIR MONITORING/RESPIRATOR REQUIREMENTS <br /> a. Breathing zone vapor at detectable concentrations at the excavation area or drilling area, <br /> as detected by an OVA(FID detector), requires site personnel to use a respirator with <br /> organic vapor cartridges and goggles while working in the exclusion zone. The OSHA- <br /> PEL for chloroform is 2 .0 pprn(see Table 5-1 below). <br /> b. Breathing zone vapor at detectable concentrations at the excavation area or drilling area, <br /> requires site manager to monitor site perimeter(concentrating in the down wind direction). <br /> C. Breathing zone vapor concentrations that reach or exceed 10 ppm at the excavation area or <br /> drilling area, as detected by the OVA, requires site personnel to use a fill face respirator <br /> with organic vapor cartridges while working in the exclusion zone. <br /> d. Breathing zone vapor concentrations that reach or exceed 50 ppm at the excavation area or <br /> drilling area, as detected by the OVA, requires site activities to be stopped until <br /> concentrations decrease. Site manager should continuously monitor site perimeter. <br /> A-8 <br /> r <br />
