Triple E Produce
P O. BOX 239 TRACY,CA 95378-0239 PH. (209)835-5123
September 11, 1998
Mr. Kit Custis
Associate Engineering Geologist
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region
7443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827
Dear Mr. Custis:
This is in response to your letter of August 18, 1998 regarding your review of the Triple E Produce Work Plan
for addressing the chloroform levels in MW-1 and Triple E's on-going program which is reducing the chloroform
contamination in the groundwater. As evidenced by the quarterly sampling results, our resources are directed
at bringing a timely closure to this groundwater issue.
r, your ietter you indicated that treatment plant effluent monitoring reports for extracted groundwater going to
the apricot spray field have not be submitted. You asked that these reports be submitted by September 15,
1998. We are pleased to report that to date this provision of our Waste Discharge Requirements (No. 96-118),
allowing such discharge, has not been needed nor used. In the event that we need to use the apricot spray
field for disposal of any excess groundwater from the aeration pond, in accordance with the Monitoring and
Reporting Program No. 96-118, the required data on the treatment plant effluent will be provided.
In your letter, you also referred to placing treatment plant effluent that does not meet the effluent standards in
the stormwater pond. While at one time, this option was considered, it was deleted from the final Waste
Discharge Requirements. Based on our review of WDRs No. 96-118, there is no reference to the stormwater
pond. In anv event. Triple E does not discharge treatment plant effluent to the stormwater pond.
With the assistance of our consultants, we are addressing the other issues and question relating MW-1 and the
groundwater extraction system that are contained in you letter of August 18. We expect to provide responses
by October 20, 1998 as you requested.
If you have any question, please call me at (209)835-5123
Sincerely yours
TR EP
L
Torn Guido
cc: Mr. Michael A.
