Box 239
Tracy, California 95378
SCHEDULE FOR EXTRA CTION AND TREATMENT OF GROUNDWATER, TRIPLE E
PROD UCE, TRACY, SAN JOAQ UIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the 20 April 2000 First Quarter 2000 Groundwater Monitoring Report(QMR)
submitted by Condor Earth Technologies, Inc. (Condor) for Triple E Produce. Triple E currently
extracts groundwater continuously from wells MW-4A and XW-1. The QMR recommends reducing or
ending the groundwater extraction to observe the chloroform concentration response. Condor concludes
that a lack of chemical rebound during the system shutdown would demonstrate that"...the technical
limits of remediation technology have been reached." While I do not agree with Condor's conclusion, I
do agree that a temporary shutdown of the system to observe the aquifer response may provide valuable
information.
Therefore, Triple E may shut down the groundwater extraction system. Triple E should shut down the
system by 1 June 2000 and conduct the normally scheduled second quarter groundwater monitoring
within two weeks of the system shutdown. During the system shutdown, Triple E needs to reduce the
volume of water stored in the aeration pond, preferably drying the pond, if possible. Groundwater
monitoring will continue as scheduled during the third and fourth quarters of 2000. No more than 30
days after the fourth quarter sampling (which shall be conducted no later than 180 days after the second
quarter sampling), Triple E shall schedule a meeting with Board staff to discuss groundwater monitoring
results during the system shutdown and future remediation needs.
If you have any questions regarding the groundwater remediation, you may call me at(916) 255-3077.
J LO,Q
ssoc ate Engineering Colo i t
cc: Mr. Mike Infurna, San Joaquin County Health Department, Stockton
Mr. Michael Campos, Washburn, Briscoe &McCarthy, Sacramento
Mr. John Kramer, Condor Earth Technologies, Sonora
California Environmental Protection Agency
Qa Recycled Paper
