Mr.Joe Mello
March 15,1999
Page 2
To implement this selected alternative treatment method, Triple E will do the following:
Construction
Pump intakes, pumps, and the necessary piping to convey water from the aeration pond to the
treatment plant will be installed. Plumbing, including a sampling port, booster pump (if
necessary), and spray irrigation equipment in the apricot orchard spray field, will be installed.
Monitoring
Treatment plant groundwater effluent will be monitored in accordance with WDR 96-118,
specifically:
1. The groundwater as treatment plant effluent will meet the chemical Discharge Specifications
stated in WDR 96-118
2. There will not be standing water in the spray field disposal areas eight hours after treated
groundwater is applied
3. Groundwater limitations will be met where water quality protection standards are as
previously defined in Table 9 of Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report, First Quarter,
1997
4. Monitoring shall be accomplished for treatment plant effluent at the discharge side of the air
stripping column prior to application to the apricot orchard spray field per the Monitoring
and Reporting Program No. 96-118, page 2
A transducer will be placed in the aeration pond to monitor the levels of water in the pond. These
data will be used to document a decrease in pond usage and to assess the effectiveness of
lowering the hydraulic head in the pond for reducing chloroform levels in groundwater from
MW-1.
Management
During the tomato processing season(i.e., July through October), extracted groundwater will be
kept separate from treated process wastewater(washwater). During washwater treatment,
extracted groundwater will be temporarily stored in the aeration pond. Washwater treatment
plant effluent will be directed to its dedicated spray field, not the apricot orchard spray field.
Washwater will be flushed from the system prior to treating groundwater. Treated groundwater
will then be directed to the apricot orchard spray field.
Implementation Schedule
The selected alternative, Alternative 5, will be initiated within 45 days after receiving approval
from the Regional Board that this alternative satisfies the alternative treatment method requested
N
• CONDOR
