Harding Way
Stockton, CA 95204
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD)
has reviewed the Quarterly Monitoring Report for the Third Quarter-1996 and has the
following comments.
In recent conversations with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB) concerning this site, it was decided that due to the site specific history of
this site for the long time period of its operation, a groundwater analysis for
Halogenated Solvents (EPA Method 601) should be included in the next quarterly
sampling event for MW-2 and MW-3R.
With consistent interference in the laboratory methods noted for most of the previous
sampling events, PHS-EHD feels that a better understanding of the site would be
obtained if these historically used dry cleaning solvents were analyzed for in the two
wells onsite that have the highest groundwater contamination. Please include the
original full-range chromatography for this analysis in the next quarterly report
submitted to PHS-EHD.
It is the intention of PHS-EHD to verify both the source of the groundwater
contamination and the extent of the down-gradient groundwater plume. PHS-EHD
agrees with your consultant's recommendation to advance additional soil borings and
obtain groundwater grab samples from the northeast and extreme southeast quadrants
of the site (inside the building). The westerly quadrant has been adequately defined by
MW-5 for now and PHS-EHD sees no need to place any borings in this quadrant as
your consultant suggested.
Please continue to quarterly sample all of the wells associated with this site and include
the new analysis for MW-2 and MW-3R in the Fourth Quarter-1996 sampling event.
Currently no open boring permit is on file for this site. in order to proceed with the
accepted recommendations included in this most recently submitted Quarterly Report,
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
