Additionally, the soil samples were fiefd=screened for the'presence of volatile "
organic compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM)-equipped with a photo-ionization detector
(FID:Thermo Environmental 580A, 1.0.0 eV,calibrated io isobutylene);the concentration readings
were recorded on the boring log.
2.3. GRAB GROUND WATER COLLECTION
At the total depth of the probe borings, -a grab ground water sample was collected utilizing a
Geoprobe water sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch diameter 0.01-inch slotted
temporary well screen. The groundwater sample was extractedby lowering a Teflon hose equipped -
with a ball-valve through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen section. The sample was
' collected in three EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0:5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as'a.
sample preservative. The collected ground water samples were labeled with the boring designation,
date, time,,and sampler's initials and placed in a chilled container under ice..
2.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND GRAB-GROUND WATER SAMPLES
The grab ground water sample and selected soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody
procedures to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories, a California Department of Health Services .
1 (DHS)-certified laboratory, for analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline.and diesel• (TPH-g and TPH-d) in '
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified; and
• Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) '
' in accordance with EPA Method.8021. ;
• The -fuel additives.MTBE; di-isopropyl ether. (PIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether-(ETBE), '
tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME},tertiary butanol(TBA), ethylene dibromide(EDB)and
' 1,2-di6hloroethane(1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
In addition, ground water sample B5 was analyzed for volatile organic compounds utilizing full scan
EPA Method 8260.
', Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
