" page 3 Project No. 90161a
19 June 1990
SITE RECONNAISSANCE
On 1 June 1990 a representative from YOUNGDAHL & ASSOCIATES, INC.
conducted a site reconnaissance and subsurface exploration
program consisting of drilling, jogging, and sampling of 13 test-
borings (see Figure No. 1 Appendix A and Field Study Appendix C) .
The site was occupied by 2 buildings and a paved parking lot.
The Yellow Submarine Sandwich Shop was opefor
unoccupieei,drin
tlsmall
our field study. The second building appeared
hand tools and cut lumber were visible inside.
Two apparent asphalt patches were present over the former
underground tank locations, as shown by the tank removal permit
(see App
endix B) . Borings 4, 5, and 6 were drilled in the fuel
tank area. Borings 4 and 5 were terminated after encountering
pipes. Sample 6-2A was collected at a depth of 3.5.5 feet near
the base of the fill material.
The waste oil tank area was tested by borings 3.0 and 11. Three
borings described on boring log no. 11 terminated after hitting
pipes. Sample 10-1A was collected at 5.5 feet at the base of the
fill material.
-y Concrete foundations and patterns in asphalt patches suggest the
locations of 3 gasoline pump islands. These islands were testa
Samples 1-1A and 2-2A were analyzed to
by borings 1, 2, and 3.
t.;.y
test for potential hydrocarbon contamination.
No free ground water was encountered in the test borings at the
f " time of drilling. A more detailed description of the soils
encountered is presented graphically on the "Logs of Test
Barings," Figure Nos. 2 through 13, Appendix B.
 z
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Laboratory analysis was conducted on 4 soil samples to test
f on contamination. Indicator analysis
potential for hydrocarb
chosen for the fuel tank and pump island areas were Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) Gasoline, TPH Diesel, and
Toluene, Ethyl-benzene, Xylene, (BTXE) . The waste oil tank area
.., was tested for Oil & Grease in addition to TPH Gasoline, TPH
Diesel, and BTXE.
ollected from borings nos. 1, 2, and 6, to test the
Samples were c
fuel tank and pump island areas. A sample was collected from
l0 to test the waste oil tank area.
--..._
E'er
3
