Figure 6 depicts the location of the eight soil borings (PT-SB5 to 12) The soil borings completed by
Earthtec Ltd were drilled with a 10 inch diameter continuous flite samples auger Soil les were recovered at five
g p
foot depth intervals and where pronounced lithologic changes were noted The B-53 drill used a modified
California split spoon sampler that cut an 18 inch long sample was used with a slide hammer to collect
undisturbed soil samples Soil samples were recovered in 6-inch long,2-inch diameter brass liners Following
recovery, the liners were sealed with teflon sheets, plastic end caps, and tape Sampling equipment was
cleaned with Alquinox and rinsed with distilled water between sample recoveries The samples were then
labeled and preserved in a cooled ice chest. Pertinent data was recorded on both the sampling log and chain
of custody document Procedures used to log and sample the individual soil bonngs are outlined in Appendix
11 Procedures used to collect groundwater grab samples and sample management are outlined in Appendix
m
Drilling was conducted under the direction of a onsite California certified engineering geologist who logged
the borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(Tablet) Table 2 presents atabulation
ofthe soil borings and monitoring wells drilled and sampled as well as a rationale for placement and summary
of results Figure 6 depicts the locations of the soil borings and monitoring wells drilled during this element
of site work
Soil samples were screened in the field using a MiniRae 2000 photoionization detector(PID),serial number
4132 in order to provide a field determination of the presence of volatile organic compounds Logs of the
individual soil borings and subsequent monitoring wells are presented in Appendix IV
A total of fifty six (56) soil samples were collected from the soil borings and monitoring wells and
forwarded onto Kiff Analytical for analysis Of these sample a total of thirty one (3 1) soil samples were
requested to be analyzed by Kiff Analytical laboratory The other samples were placed on hold pending
further notice Figure 6 is a map that depicts the locations and analytical results of these soil samples
Following sample collection, the borings were backfilled with neat-cement grout from the bottom of the
borehole to ground surface through the augers under PHSEHD oversight A miscommunication between
the drill crew and onsite geologist resulted in placement of sand in the zone where the neat cement grout was
to have been placed in wellbores for MW-4, 5, and 6 during August 18 and 19, 2003 Upon recognition of
M=\DEnvyonmenWTan=Texaw\Raports\SARi203wo Page 14
