The
Report describes four quarterly groundwater sampling events during 2001 of shallow monitoring wells
in the aquifer A -zone, and one round of groundwater sampling during January 2002 for MW -1D, which
is screened in the B -zone aquifer. During 2001, depth to groundwater across the site varied from 48 to
52 feet below ground surface, with a slight (0.012 ft/ft) upward gradient from the B -zone to the A -zone.
Groundwater flow direction varied from south -southeasterly to south -southwesterly, with a gradient
variation from 0.003-0.035 feet/feet.
Monitoring well MW -8 was not sampled during 2001, due to the presence of floating free product.
Approximately 61 gallons of floating free product mixed with groundwater was removed from
monitoring well MW -8 during 2001. D7 monitoring well MW -1 was abandoned on 10 January 2001.
MW -2 and MW -5 were dry during the 4 quarter 2001.
The Report states that Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, as diesel (TPH-d), as gasoline (TPH-g), benzene-
toluene-ethylbenzene-xylenes (BTEX), volatile organic compounds (VOCs, including oxygenates), and
dissolved lead were detected in the A -zone. Maximum groundwater concentrations were:
• 39,000 µg/L for TPH-g (MW -9, 4a' quarter 2001),
• 2,900 µg/L for TPH-d (MW -6, 1" quarter 2001),
• 4,600-1,300-920-3,200 µg/L for B -T -E -X (MW -9, 4`h quarter 2001), and
• 2,900 µg/L for Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MtBE) in MW -7 (2°d quarter 2001).
a VOC (1,2-dichloroethane) was detected for the first time, at 3.3 ug/L (MW -6, 4th quarter 2001).
During January 2001, analyses from soil boring DB -1 revealed TPH-d, TPH-g, BTEX, and oxygenates
in soil and groundwater in the B -zone aquifer. Subsequent non -detect results of groundwater analysis
for deep monitoring well MW -1D (January 2002), located near DB -1, were presented as proof that the
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
