Mr. Jim Lancaster 27 February 2002
Woolsey Oil, Inc. 2
previous soil and groundwater contamination reported in the B -zone was probably due to cross -
contamination during DB -1's drilling.
The Report concludes that, with the exception of MW -9, contaminant concentrations have stabilized in
all monitoring wells. MW -9 groundwater concentrations, which increased significantly during the P
and 4"' quarters of 2001, were attributed to seasonal fluctuations. Groundwater concentrations increase
in MW -9 as groundwater levels decrease, possibly due to a smear zone near the water table.
Comments
1. Please describe the final disposition of the free product removed from MW -8, in future reports. It is
our understanding, from our conversations with GZA and Woolsey Oil, Inc, that the drummed free
product is recycled.
2. Attachment A: The Report's quarterly potentiometric surface (groundwater) and isoconcentrations
figures are very helpful for visualizing groundwater flow directions and contaminant concentrations.
Please number or otherwise identify the figures individually in future reports.
3. Attachment B: Likewise, the graphs of contaminant concentrations/water levels over time are very
helpful for visualizing contaminant concentration trends, and correlating groundwater levels to
concentration peaks. Please submit a replacement page for graph MW -7 Groundwater Elevation and
MtBE. The sample dates were inadvertently left off of this graph.
If you have any questions, you may contact me at (916) 255-3050.
i=S-L.L.
