The Work Plan details the drilling, well construction, and
groundwater sampling of one monitoring well (MW -1D). The screened interval will be between 85 and
100 feet below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples will be taken by split spoon at five-foot intervals only
between 60 and 70 feet to locate a clay layer previously identified in soil boring SB -1. A 6.25 -inch
diameter steel conductor casing will be set down to the clay layer, and grouted in place. Drilling will
continue through the grout plug down to 101 feet bgs. A two-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride
monitoring well will be constructed inside of the conductor casing, using a centralizer at approximately
every 20 feet of casing. The drilling method will be mud rotary.
The Work Plan states that all samples (water and soil) will be analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons, Diesel and Gasoline by EPA Method 8015M; Benzene/Toluene/Ethylbenzene/Xylenes by
EPA Method 8020; and fuel oxygenates by EPA Method 8260.
Comments
1. Please specify the grain size/type of filter pack for the pre -packed monitoring well filters
2. Please provide an explanation of the disposal options that GZA will evaluate, prior to proper disposal
of the drill cuttings.
3. Deep Boring 1 (DB 1) from the previous investigation is not shown on Figure 2. Please add DB 1 and
label the boring.
4. Since there will be no soil cores taken with the mud rotary method, please show the lithology in the
drilling logs from the cuttings, and compare the cuttings to the DB 1 lithology, in the next report.
California Environmental Protection Agency
a4 Recycled Paper
