0 •
CAMBRIA
Work Tasks
Permits An appropriate permit for drilling will be obtained from SJCPHS/EHD
Health and Safety Plan A site-specific Health and Safety Plan will be prepared for field
work
Utility Clearance Proposed drilling locations will be marked and their locations cleared
through Underground Services Alert (USA) prior to drilling
Site Investigation Four exploratory soil borings (GP-3 through GP-6) are proposed in the
vicinity of the dispenser islands and product piping at the locations shown on Plate 2 These
borings will be drilled in areas where petroleum hydrocarbons were detected during the 1994
tank removal and/or in locations with the potential to be source areas As these locations are
beneath the existing canopy, we cannot use a cone penetrometer testing (CPT) drilling rig
and will drill the borings with a GeoProbe rig
Field evidence such as soil staining, odor, and photo-ionization detector (PID) measurements
will be evaluated in each boring to determine if the boring was placed in a source area If the
boring location is identified as a source area, the boring will be advanced until there is no field
evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons or MTBE in order to delineate the vertical extent of
these constituents If there is no field evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons or MTBE within
10 feet of the surface, then the boring is not in a source area and will be terminated
As Equilon Enterprises LLC has no plans to remove the existing USTs, it is not feasible at
this time to collect soil samples from beneath the UST complex During the January 1999
investigation, Cambria drilled four exploratory soil borings (SBA through SB-4) adjacent to
the UST complex and no source area was identified To determine whether the UST complex
is a source area, Cambria proposes installing three groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1
through MW-3) at the locations shown on Plate 2 Cambria proposes to install one well
adjacent to the product piping between the dispensers and the UST complex, one well north
of the UST complex, and the third well south of the UST complex
Groundwater data from these wells will allow us to establish an onsite groundwater flow
direction and identify the general location of the source area The well borings will be drilled
to 10 feet below first-encountered groundwater using hollow-stem auger equipment
i
241-0955 3
