r
CAMBRIA
HYDROCARBON DISTRIBUTION IN SOIL
No TPHg, BTEX, or fuel oxygenates (including MTBE) were detected in soil samples collected
from well borings SVE-I through SVE-3
The soil chemical analytical data are summarized in Table 2 and TPHg, benzene, and MTBE
results are presented on Figure 2 Laboratory analytical reports are included in Appendix C
SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST OVERVIEW
The objective of SVE at the subject site is to remove residual petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel
oxygenates from soil near the USTs Cambria performed SVE from vapor extraction wells
SVE-1, SVE-2, and SVE-3 from October 7 through 11, 2003
SVE Equipment A Solleco trailer-mounted liquid-ring pump with electric catalytic oxidizer
(Solleco unit) was used as the extraction and vapor treatment device during the SVE test A 150-
kilowatt generator powered the Solleco unit A recirculation valve controlled the applied
. vacuum and vapor extraction flow rate The Solleco unit is equipped with auto-dilution and
manual dilution valves for additional vacuum and flow control, as well as to maintain oxidizer
temperatures within the specified range
Field vapor concentrations were measured with a Horiba HEXA J-series organic vapor analyzer,
calibrated to iso-butylene Vapor samples were collected in one-liter tedlar bags using a Thomas
Industries vacuum pump Vacuum induced at the wellhead and in nearby wells was monitored
using Magnehelic differential pressure gauges A TSI model 8330 air velocity meter was used to
measure vapor extraction velocity rates and temperature
Data Collection and Sampling Wells SVE-1, SVE-2, and SVE-3 were gauged prior to
beginning SVE, and were all observed to be dry Throughout the SVE test, Cambria measured
the applied vacuum, airflow, volatile organic vapor concentration, and vacuum influence in
nearby wells at 15- to 60-minute intervals Samples of extracted soil vapor were collected at the
end of each step test and toward the beginning, at one or more midpoints, and at the end of each
of the longer SVE tests on wells SVE-1, SVE-2, and SVE-3
Analyses All vapor samples were analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates by EPA
Method 8260B
•
0955 6
