. 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> This report presents the results of a subsurface environmental mendations regarding the site <br /> investigation conducted by Upgradient Environmental Consultants during January and February <br /> 1996 at 900 1/2 East Victor Road in Lodi, California The property is owned by Teresi Trucking <br /> Company The work was performed at the request of San Joaquin County Public Health Services, <br /> Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD), which is the lead agency responsible for regulatory <br /> oversight The purpose of the investigation was to delineate the vertical and lateral extent of <br /> gasoline and diesel contamination in soil and groundwater beneath the company's fueling facility, <br /> which was removed in December 1995 <br /> Upgradient was retained in January 1996 to prepare a Site Contamination Workplan, which was <br /> submitted on January 12 and approved with modifications by PHS/EHD on January 25 <br /> 2,0 BACKGROUND <br /> 2.1 Underground Tank Removal <br /> The Teresi Trucking yard is located east of S highway 99 in Lodi, California (Figure 1) On <br /> December 1, 1995, three underground storage tanks were removed by Jim Thorpe Oil from the <br /> . rear portion of the facility (Figure 2) The tanks stored diesel and unleaded gasoline and had been <br /> used to fuel company trucks In accordance with regulatory guidelines, eight soil samples were <br /> collected from beneath the tanks when they were removed Samples were also collected from the <br /> dispenser island, piping trench, and soil stockpiles GeoAnalytical Laboratories analyzed the <br /> samples for the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the diesel and gasoline ranges, for volatile <br /> aromatic hydrocarbons, and for total lead Contamination, pnmanly in the diesel range, was <br /> detected in several samples <br /> 2.2 Interim Remediation <br /> Thorpe performed additional excavation on December 6 in order to remove the remaining <br /> contaminated soil from the excavation PHS/EHD instructed Thorpe to cease excavating at a <br /> depth of 25 feet and collect two bottom samples Figure 2 shows the approximate locations of <br /> samples OE-1 and OE-2, in which diesel was detected at concentrations of 3,000 and 6,000 ` <br /> mg/kg and gasoline was detected at concentrations of 60 and 800 mg/kg PHS/EHD then <br /> instructed Teresi Trucking to submit a work plan for assessing the extent of this contammtion <br /> The stockpile of excavated soil was covered with plastic sheeting and the excavation was allowed <br /> to remain open <br /> 1 <br /> I <br /> i <br />
