-Spill Response- <br /> For the protection of all fueling center attendants, customers and vendors of the fueling <br /> center, has developed this guide to help assist attendants and grocery store management <br /> in the event of a spill. <br /> Important Note <br /> • The local fire department must be notified of any spill or release that might affect <br /> public safety. Their EMERGENCY NUMBER IS 911. <br /> • California Law requires immediate notification of a spill or a release be made to the <br /> Department of Environment Protection at 916-445-3846, 24 hours a day. <br /> • Federal Law requires immediate notification of a spill or release of a Reportable <br /> Quantity be made to the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802, 24 hours a day. <br /> The following guidelines should be followed during a spill. <br /> I. Small Spills 0-10 Gallons <br /> Small spills such as overfills made by customers, maintenance on pumps, or other minor <br /> spills can be effectively handled by trained kiosk employees. <br /> 1. Shut down pumps. <br /> 2. Secure area, limit traffic by vehicles and persons, use Traffic Cones or Caution <br /> Tape, or simply placing a vehicle in the way. <br /> 3. Enforce NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAMES. <br /> 4. Notify appropriate grocery store management. Management should notify local <br /> and state officials as deemed necessary. <br /> 5. Put on Safety Glasses and Gloves found in the SOS Spill Kit, before touching any <br /> spill material or contaminated absorbent. <br /> 6. If safe to do, place dry particulate absorbent onto the spilled liquid, use as much <br /> absorbent necessary to soak up free liquid. <br /> 7. Place contaminated Absorbent Pads into the 6 mil Poly Bag, found in the SOS <br /> spill kit, tape closed with duct tape. <br /> 8. Sweep up absorbent material and place into the Spill Kits 5 gal. Pail, cover pail. <br /> Notify, restock of spill kit, and disposal of waste from spill. <br /> Section 1-1 <br />
