Smith Environmental SYFE SAFETY PLAN <br /> FACILITY BACKGROUND <br /> On March 30, 1989, an underground diesel tank was removed from the site Sod contanunation was <br /> noted in the sidewalls of the excavation Groundwater was encountered in the tank pit at a depth of <br /> 9 5 feet below surface grade Soil samples were collected from each wall of the pit Due to elevated <br /> concentrations of diesel constituents in the samples (Table 1) San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services required further assessment of sod and groundwater contamination at the site <br /> The pit was subsequently backfilled with clean sandy soil and which was compacted to 94% maximum <br /> compaction at optimum moisture A new asphalt road was constructed over the top of the former <br /> excavation During the paving of the area, monitoring well MWl was damaged and has subsequently <br /> been abandoned under permit from San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> WORK PLAN <br /> Task One: <br /> Supervise the installation of four soil borings to depths ranging from approximately <br />. 8 to 12 feet below the ground surface. Two soil samples will be collected from each <br /> boring; one from the soil/groundwater interface; and one from areas which exhibit <br /> physical indications of contamination. Samples will be analyzed for BTEX (EPA <br /> Method 8020), TPHg (EPA Method 8015), and TPHd (EPA Method 8015). <br /> PAGE 3 <br />
